DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The sacrifice of Elijah, compared to that of the priests of the previous hexagon, has a very different result, rappesentato with flames divine raining from the sky, lit the pyre even though it was wet and green wood. This miraculous event surprised all present (I Kings, 18, 30-39). Elijah is represented kneeling on the left, while on the other hand the priests of Baal assist dismayed, as suggested by the figure tilted on the step in the foreground, which overturns the amphora with which it was wet wood. The frame is a design by Beccafumi and stands out for the richness of characters, varied poses and attitudes, but all traced to a pattern of harmonious symmetry, mold Raphael.
