Tempera and gold on wood
Luca di Tommè's painting of Saint Peter is a panel of a polyptych originally created for the Church of San Pietro a Ovile in Siena.
Saint Peter the Apostle is depicted with his typical iconographic attributes (keys and a book).
The original panel, which has been cut on all four sides over the centuries, has some historical gaps along the lower and upper edges.
The work reflects the style of the 14th-century Sienese school and shows the influence of the Lorenzetti brothers' volumetric technique combined with the elegance of Simone Martini.
