DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The work, originally located on the altar of the Centurati in the Church of San Martino in Siena, is now preserved and exhibited at the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Siena.
The iconography of the Madonna breastfeeding the Child Jesus is typical of the 14th-century Sienese school, strongly influenced by the linear refinement of Simone Martini and Lippo Memmi.
In subsequent centuries, the tavila was inserted into the center of a larger, monumental canvas, painted by Crescenzio Gambarelli, before being placed in a museum.
