DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Tempera on panel
Benedetto di Bindo's Madonna and Child is a tempera painting on panel created approximately between 1390 and 1400. The work originally comes from the church of San Michele al Monte di San Donato.
This work, in the late Sienese Gothic style, is characterized by a strong lyricism and the persistence of the gold background typical of the local painting tradition.
(panel).
Benedetto di Bindo was active in Siena in the early decades of the 15th century and, in this early panel, demonstrates profound ties to the work of masters such as Simone Martini and the Lorenzetti brothers, combining the elegance of late Gothic lines with the solemnity of sacred representation.
