The Assumption of Mary was painted in tempera on wood by the Sienese artist Bernardino Fungai.
In the Assumption, now in the Pinacoteca, the Madonna is carried to heaven by a group of musician angels, surrounded by several saints.
At the bottom, behind the empty tomb, we see Saint John the Evangelist, and to the sides are Saint Francis and Saint Bernardino of Siena. Piero Torriti recalls it as a work from his late maturity. He emphasizes that the style is still linked to the Sienese tradition and Umbrian painting
