The Madonna del Latte by Andrea Vanni, dating back to circa 1390, is a sacred work of art from the Sienese school, preserved in the Diocesan Museum of Siena.
The painting depicts the Virgo Lactans (the Virgin breastfeeding the Child Jesus), an intimate and widespread theme in 14th-century Italy.
The work comes from the church of San Michele al Monte di San Donato or, according to historical reconstructions, from a panel of a polyptych for the former convent of Sant'Eugenio a Monistero.
It features the typical features of late Sienese Gothic art, with sinuous lines, a stamped gold background, and a solemn yet gentle expression on the Mother's face.
