DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The Madonna Enthroned with Child and a Donor is an important tempera on panel work attributed to the Sienese Gothic painter Andrea Vanni, dating to around 1390.
The Virgin Mary is depicted seated on a wooden throne with the Child Jesus, while at her feet appears the smaller figure of a praying believer, usually the patron.
The work reflects the typical taste of the 14th-century Sienese school, strongly influenced by the mystical and elegant tradition of Simone Martini.
